Car Wash Tips Part 1
Fall is here which means it is the rainy season in the Seattle region. Did you know rainwater can contain pollutants, and when rain evaporates, it leaves a layer of pollutants behind that will damage your car paint. The damaging impact of rain goes deeper than physical appearance. It can cause damage to essential parts of the vehicle, parts that are susceptible to rusting. The following are some tips to help you protect and maximize the life of your car’s exterior.
Car Wax – A home wax or a detailer can help prevent rain damage by putting a protective coating around the car. This coating acts like an invisible layer that will allow the water to fall off of the car faster and dry quicker. This serves to protect your car by creating a barrier between the car’s paint and the rain and dirt that is left behind. It will help release the dirt easily next time you wash and provide a barrier to help protect the paint. Use a professional grade car wash mitt, when washing and applying. That will be the gentlest on your car while still removing dirt and grime. And remember waxing a car is as essential as washing. It is advised that you regularly wash your car.
Rain Repellent – Applying a treatment of rain repellant to your window is capable of making every drive through a downpour safer for drivers and passengers alike. The major benefit of rain repellent is the improved visibility while driving. Rain repellent forms a chemical bond with your windshield, so you can get hydrophobic protection which actually will ease the workload for your windshield wipers.
Replace Old Windshield Wipers – We’ve all been there, putting off things until they absolutely need to be done. When it comes to the rainy season it is important to replace wiper blades before getting caught in the rain with broken ones. Not having working wiper blades can lead to much greater damage and/or bodily injury if you are caught in an accident due to not being able to see while driving in the rain.
Repair Leaky Seals – One of the most damaging things that could happen to an interior of a car is water damage. You can prevent rain from getting inside your car by making sure that all openings are well sealed. Every season, check the rubber linings on all doors and trunks, and immediately repair them if they become damaged. Before leaving your car during the rainy season, double check any windows or sunroofs to make sure they are completely closed. You would not want water damage to come from carelessness!
